FTUAM 95/33 Thermodynamic Features of Black Holes Dressed with Quantum Fields
نویسنده
چکیده
The thermal properties of black holes in the presence of quantum elds can be revealed through solutions of the semi-classical Einstein equation. We present a brief but self-contained review of the main features of the semi-classical back reaction problem for a black hole in the microcanonical ensemble. The solutions, obtained for conformal scalars, massless spinors and U(1) gauge bosons, are used to calculate theO( h) corrections to the temperature and thermodynamical entropy of a Schwarzschild black hole. In each spin case considered, the entropy corrections S(r), are positive de nite and monotone increasing with increasing distance r from the hole, and are of the same order as the naive at space radiation entropy. Based on a talk given at the Third Workshop on Quantum Field Theory under the In uence of External Conditions, Leipzig, Germany, 18-22 September, 1995.

Quantum Entropy of Charged Rotating Black Holes
For more than two decades physicists have come to appreciate black holes as thermodynamic systems characterized by only a few macroscopic parameters such as mass (m), charge (q) and angular momentum (Ω). The generic representative of such a hole in general relativity is the Kerr-Newman metric . The thermodynamic analogy suggests that there is an entropy associated with this hole that is proport...
متن کاملThermodynamic Geometry and Extremal Black Holes in String Theory
We study a generalisation of thermodynamic geometry to degenerate quantum ground states at zero temperatures exemplified by charged extremal black holes in type II string theories. Several examples of extremal charged black holes with non degenerate thermodynamic geometries and finite but non zero state space scalar curvatures are established. These include black holes described by D1-D5-P and ...
متن کاملFree energy and entropy for semiclassical black holes in the canonical ensemble.
We consider the thermodynamics of a black hole coupled to thermal radiation in a spatially finite (spherical) region. Thermodynamic state functions are derived in the canonical ensemble, defined by elements of radius ro and boundary temperature T (ro). Using recent solutions of the semi-classical back reaction problem, we compute the O(h̄) corrections to the mass of the black hole, thermal energ...
متن کاملBlack holes and D-branes
Black holes have an entropy proportional to the area of the horizon. The microscopic degrees of freedom that give rise to the entropy are not visible in the classical theory. String theory, a quantum theory of gravity, provides a microscopic quantum description of the thermodynamic properties of some extremal and near extremal charged black holes. The description uses properties of some string ...
